Zoom Transcript to Text

Drop Zoom's .vtt — get text, one paragraph per speaker.

Converted in your browser, never uploaded
Input
Output

Turns the transcript Zoom saves with a cloud recording — the .vtt file next to the video — into readable text, one paragraph per speaker turn with the name in front. Download it from Recordings & Transcripts in the Zoom web portal and drop it here. The same text then gives you the summary and action items of that meeting, without uploading anything again.

How to Download and Convert a Zoom Transcript

From Recordings & Transcripts to a clean file in four steps — no software, no account.

Step 1

Download the transcript from Zoom

Sign in to the Zoom web portal, open Recordings & Transcripts, then Cloud recordings, and select the meeting. The transcript is listed as a separate file next to the video — download it.

Step 2

Drop the .vtt here or paste it

Drag the file onto the Input box, pick it with Upload file, or paste its content. The converter recognises the WebVTT layout and the speaker names in it.

Step 3

Choose timestamps and the output

Plain text with one paragraph per turn is the default. Switch timestamps on, keep or drop the names, or pick Markdown, SRT, VTT or a CSV for Excel instead.

Step 4

Download — or get the notes of this meeting

Copy or download the text. "Get the summary & action items" next to Download sends the same text to write the summary, decisions and action items of the meeting.

Why Use This Converter

  • Reads the speaker name Zoom writes into every cue and joins a person's cues into one paragraph
  • Timestamps on demand — none, every cue, or every 15, 30 or 60 seconds
  • Plain text, Markdown, SRT, VTT or CSV from the same file
  • The summary and action items of the meeting from the same text, one click away
  • Converted in your browser — the file is not uploaded for the conversion

Frequently Asked Questions

Only a cloud recording has one. Sign in to the Zoom web portal, go to Recordings & Transcripts, open Cloud recordings and select the meeting: the audio transcript is listed as its own file next to the video and can be downloaded as a .vtt. It appears a while after the meeting ends, once Zoom has processed the recording.

No. Audio transcripts are part of cloud recording, which needs a paid Zoom plan (Pro, Business, Education or Enterprise) with cloud recording and audio transcript turned on. On the free plan you can record to your computer, and that gives an .mp4 video and an .m4a audio file without a transcript — transcribe that audio with the Zoom recording to text tool instead.

Yes. Zoom writes "Name: what they said" at the start of each cue; this page moves the name in front of the paragraph and writes it once per turn instead of once per cue. A cue Zoom left without a name stays as it is — nothing is guessed.

Yes. Download the .txt and open it in Word or Google Docs, or copy the text and paste it into a document. Markdown is the better pick for Notion or Obsidian, and CSV opens as a table in Excel with start time, end time, speaker and text.

Convert the file, then click "Get the summary & action items" next to Download. The text — not the file — is sent to write a summary, the decisions, the action items and a follow-up email. The first set of notes is free with no account, for up to 60,000 characters (about an hour of speech).

Not for the conversion: the file is read and converted by JavaScript in your browser. Only if you ask for notes is the text sent, to write them. MeetWave doesn't store the text you paste. It is sent to our AI processing provider only to write your notes, isn't used to train models, and isn't kept by MeetWave after the answer arrives.

Yes. The converter reads the file layout, not the words, so a transcript in Spanish, German or any other language Zoom transcribed converts the same way, accented names included.
